About Chapter One
Hello all, my name is Aihua, I'm the new owner of Chapter One and an architect from Guangzhou.First off, I would like to introduce Chapter One to my friends old and new.
In 2008 I came to Kunming to chill out for a while so I went looking for a place that would put my mind and body at ease. Wenlin Jie and its many comfortable small bars appealed to me, so I decided to take a stroll and see what the options were.
When I came across Chapter One, I knew it was the place where I could relax. From then on, Chapter One became the place I went daily to relax or read a book. In a short time, I started working behind the bar too, and found that I really enjoyed it.
So I bought the bar - why not? The previous owners had done a great job with it and it had become my new home in Kunming.
Now my greatest wish is that Chapter One gives you the same feeling that it gives me – the feeling of being at home. I'm outgoing and open to any suggestions you may have to make Chapter One even better - I appreciate any and all feedback!

Weekly Charity Event
Hanging out at the bar with friends is one of the things that can make life a little nicer, but sometimes we need to take a moment to remember there are too many poor children in the world. When a child with a good mind can't receive an education because his or her family lacks the means to pay for it, it is truly saddening. Perhaps by contributing just a little bit of money we can change a child's life.I believe the two happiest things in the world are being able to do what one enjoys and to be able to help those who deserve it. This kind of enjoyment has nothing to do with money. Let's come together and celebrate life!
Here's the deal:
Chapter One owner Liu Aihua will initially contribute 1,000 yuan in startup capital for the Chapter One charity fund.
All day every Wednesday, Chapter One will donate one yuan for each drink and food item sold, excluding happy hour and other specials. The money will be deposited in an account supervised by Aihua and his American friends Tim and Jeff.
To all my dear friends from China and around the world, I hope to see you on Wednesdays at Chapter One, because on this day, even though our prices stay the same, you can contribute one yuan to a good cause.
This activity can only succeed with your help – we hope you will support our efforts.
Yes, running a bar is running a business. But as we run our business, there is no reason we can't engage in some charitable activities as well. This isn't just a Chapter One activity – it's for anyone who has a caring heart!
